Annual Events

Third Annual Retreat

Thirty members attended the third annual retreat on January 11, 2020.

The theme this year was Huddle 2.0 - Boosting Your Activism in 2020

To introduce ourselves, each participant shared an artifact and a story of how we got started in political activism.

Following introductions, we watched a video about tribal leadership.

In the morning, we tested our temperament types and divided into groups of "like-minded" people. In each group, members explored their natural comfort levels with postcard writing, phone banking, text banking, and canvassing, and the reasons why.

The groups shared their thoughts about why some election actions seem more appealing than others to different people and personalities.

In the afternoon, we circulated among different stations to ask questions and learn the details of postcard writing, phone banking, text banking, and canvassing.

Huddlers were informed and inspired to commit to election actions outside our natural comfort zone for the 2020 election.

We enjoyed a delicious Mediterranean lunch at noon.

After lunch, Maureen Forney of Flip the West gave an inspiring call to activism in this election.

To close the retreat, we each wrote a wish for 2020 and read it out as we placed it on the board.

Finally, Vicky read an inspiring passage about hope and action from Rebecca Solnit's Hope in the Dark.
